Ardiden 3TP: the only 100% European turboprop solution for European military applications

Based on the Tech TP technological demonstrator currently under ground-test in France, the Ardiden 3TP will offer Europe’s aerospace industry a turboprop engine featuring a proven design, and competitive operating and maintenance costs.

Three European aerospace manufacturers, Safran Helicopter Engines, MT-Propeller and ZF Luftfahrttechnik (ZFL), have joined forces to develop the Ardiden 3TP turboprop, intended amongst others for unmanned, training and transport aircraft applications. This 100% European solution is based on Safran's Ardiden 3 engine core, which is already certified by EASA. It features technologies matured through the Tech TP technological demonstrator which ran for the first time in June 2019. MT-Propeller contributes the propeller and ZFL the PAGB (propeller and accessory gearbox).

Commented Florent Chauvancy, Safran Helicopter Engines EVP OEM Sales: "Ardiden 3TP is a mature and very competitive engine solution designed, built and supported by a truly European team, using technologies from across the continent. Under test at our Tarnos facility in France, the Tech-TP demonstrator already represents one of the greatest achievements of the EU's Clean Sky 2 program. For European nations seeking to protect their national interests, in civil or military fixed-wing programs, Ardiden 3TP is the natural choice".

Martin Albrecht, MT-Propeller CEO, said: "A partnership with Safran and ZFL is a great opportunity for us. Our composite propeller adds real value to the engine, lowering the weight and reducing noise output of the whole system. It is very exciting to see our propeller featured on the Tech TP."

Ardiden 3TP will be optimized for medium and high-altitude missions

The Ardiden 3TP will be optimized for operation at medium and high altitudes, up to 45,000 feet, and be easy to operate -- thanks to a unique throttle and Full Authority Digital Engine and Propeller Control (FADEPC) for both power and propeller pitch.

Since June 2019, Tech TP ground tests have progressed at a steady pace, with PAGB endurance tests set to begin this summer. This technological demonstrator aims to validate the technologies necessary to develop a new-generation turboprop. Tech TP will feature a compact, lightweight architecture and offer 15% lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (over current engines). It is one of the first Clean Sky 2 demonstrators to enter its test phase. More than 20 European partners from eight countries are contributing to this demonstrator.
